Yes, there were blueberries! Hidden Star was offering them alongside their apples. And yes, they were $10 per pound, and no they weren’t certified organic (though they used no chemical fertilizers and no spray), but they were from my favorite apple man so of course I bought some. And they were yummy in one of my favorite desserts – fresh blueberries with Cheerios and milk. Of course I used Full Circle Organic Toasted Oats cereal and Straus organic milk but otherwise it was just like when I was little!
Tomatero and Happy Boy had their usual range of goodies. Tomatero was showing off not just one, but three(!) varieties of strawberries: Albion, Chandler, and Sea Scape (don’t ask me to explain the difference – you’ll have to try them for yourself). They also had basil! (Which, by the way, they recommend you store outside of your fridge. Sticking the bunch in a a cup of water, out of the sun, works nicely).
Rounding out the market were Sukhi and Malik Ranch.
If you missed it, never fear. The Castro market is tomorrow and the Noe Valley market returns in its full glory on Saturday. Don’t ever say that shopping directly from farmers isn’t easy in our neck of the woods.
